Al-Masalla Organization for Human Development has successfully concluded its year-long community project, “Future Playgrounds,” funded by the UEFA Foundation for Children. The project focused on enhancing children’s well-being and rights by integrating structured sports programs into the public school system.
Targeting middle school students aged 10 to 17 across eight schools in Ninawa and Anbar, the project ensured a minimum participation rate of 40% for girls, promoting inclusivity, physical and mental health, and improved engagement in education.
Al-Masalla collaborated closely with the Ministry of Education, local school administrations, and physical education departments to embed regular sports classes into school schedules. Teachers were empowered through practical training, and students were encouraged to embrace teamwork, participation, and cooperation.
Activities included selecting target schools, training teachers, distributing essential sports equipment, organizing weekly sports sessions, hosting inter-school competitions, and culminating in a final tournament and project closing ceremony.
Ibrahim Ismail, Executive Director of Al-Masalla Organization, said:
“The Future Playgrounds project has successfully created a safe and inclusive learning environment. Its benefits extend beyond sports; it fosters values of cooperation, inclusivity, and girls’ empowerment, contributing to the development of a healthy, active, and engaged generation.”
He added:
“We thank all our partners, teams, and schools for their support and collaboration in making this project a success, and we look forward to continuing initiatives that promote children’s rights and enhance their physical and social skills.”
